Privacy Policy

Qlean ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we handle and how. By using the Qlean app or website (qlean.in), you agree to this policy.

1. Our core principle

Qlean is a content-protection tool. It is built so that your screen stays yours. We never record it, never screenshot it, never store what you view, and never sell it. Checks happen on your device wherever they can; on the small number of screens that cannot be judged there, a short fragment of text - stripped of emails and phone numbers first - is checked by our classification service and then discarded. Section 2 sets out exactly when that happens and what is sent.

2. Information the app accesses

To identify and block explicit content, Qlean uses Android's Accessibility Service to read on-screen text in the foreground app in real time. Almost all of this is handled entirely on your device and never leaves it: our built-in word list and your blocklist settings decide the great majority of cases in memory, in milliseconds.

A small number of screens cannot be judged that way. When that happens, and only then, a short fragment of the on-screen text is sent to our classification service, which passes it to an AI provider that answers a single question: is this explicit, yes or no. We want to be exact about this, because it is the one moment anything leaves your phone:

Identifying details are removed before the fragment is sent. Email addresses and long number sequences - phone numbers, card and account numbers - are stripped on your device, so they are never transmitted at all.
It is a fragment, not your screen. At most a few hundred characters of text, with no screenshot, and no record of which app you were in. If you are in a browser, that text can include the address of the page you have open, because the address is part of what is on screen.
Nothing is stored. Neither we nor the AI provider keep the fragment. It is not saved, not logged, and not linked to your account, your email or your device.
It is never used to build a profile, never sold, and never used for advertising.

If a screen is mostly numbers - a contacts list, a bank statement - the stripping can leave nothing meaningful, and in that case nothing is sent and nothing is checked.

3. Account information we store

Your subscription is purchased and managed through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we never see or store your card, bank or UPI details. Against the email address you sign in with, we keep only what is needed to run your account:

Your email address - it identifies your account and your subscription.
Your subscription record - which plan you hold, when it renews or expires, and the Google Play purchase reference, so we can confirm your access and help you if something goes wrong.
Your streak and trial start dates - so your progress survives a reinstall or a new phone.
The date your app last checked in - a single timestamp, no location, no activity detail. We use it to tell an account still in use from one that has been abandoned.

Phone number. Google Play may collect a phone number as part of verifying a payment - for example with carrier billing or UPI. That happens entirely inside Google Play, under Google's own privacy policy. We never receive it, see it, or store it, and Qlean itself never asks you for a phone number.

App analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to see how the app is used in aggregate - how many people install it, how many keep using it, where it crashes. It gives your installation a random identifier so those counts are not double-counted. Advertising-ID collection is switched off, and none of this identifies you personally.

We do not build a profile of you, and none of this is used for advertising.

4. How we use your information

To activate and verify your subscription.
To restore your streak on a new device or after a reinstall.
To send important service updates.
To provide customer support.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell or rent your data. We share information only with service providers essential to running Qlean, and only to the extent required to deliver the service:

Google Play - billing and subscriptions.
Google Firebase - cloud storage for your account record, and app analytics.
Our AI classification provider - receives only the redacted text fragment described in section 2, to answer whether a screen is explicit. It is not given your email, your account, or any device identifier, and it does not retain the fragment.

6. Data security

Account data is stored securely and encrypted in transit. Payment processing is handled entirely by PCI-DSS compliant providers.

7. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data at any time by emailing support@qlean.in.

8. Children

Qlean is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed at children.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page with a revised date.
